  1. Whoops…

I just took a seat reserved for Saudi‘s elite figures. I was swiftly moved on. Not the place to sit down in jeans and trainers.

  2. ‘I just want to do the job’ – Joshua

Anthony Joshua is probably 10 minutes from weighing in.

He’s had a ‘strictly business’ aura about him all week.

There have been whispers he was a bit fed up with the distractions in his life and the need to put on a show for the masses. As he told BBC Sport editor Dan Roan, his goal is simple this time.

  3. A healthy turnout

So the current scene is nice and lively. There were fears thing may be a touch flat.

I would say around 400-500 people are here surrounding the stage. There are a few flags, some booming tunes and not an ale in sight.

Go grab yourself a fizzy pop and turn the tunes up on your headphones and it will feel like you’re with us.

Queretaro, Mexico to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

That’s the journey these guys have made.

“The tickets were easy. It’s the visas that were a problem,” they explain.

“Ruiz now is the big hero. More than Canelo in our country as he’s humble.”

They go on to explain that boxing and football are ways of life in their homeland. Little wonder then that Ruiz has seen his life change so dramatically.

Some will see Joshua as naive when he says he would “definitely be bothered” if he was being used to help improve the image of this country, and point to the £60m he is expected to earn from being here.

Others say it is unfair to expect boxing to turn down Saudi Arabia’s staggering riches when the British government has been happy to sell billions of pounds worth of arms to the country in recent years.

Promoter Eddie Hearn took a different approach when asked to defend being here ahead of more established boxing venues, insisting others will come regardless, and that the risks boxers take mean they must be expected to accept such lucrative offers from the world’s leading oil-exporter.

Who said fans couldn’t make it to Saudi Arabia by the way? BBC sports editor Dan Roan has found some and they are nothing but praiseworthy of what they’ve found so far.

  • Eyes on the scales (and stream)

    Luke Reddy

    BBC Sport in Riyadh

So we’re in. And if you’re just tuning in, we expect fighters on the scales in a matter of minutes. Anthony Joshua and Ruiz will weigh in around 30 minutes later.

You’ll be able to watch a live stream in this page as they hit the scales and keep an eye on Anthony Joshua’s weight as he’s told us he may dip under 17st. That would be some move and his lightest weight since 2014.

It sounds to me like he wants to dance around Ruiz. Evading those rapid hands is some task for 12 rounds though.

  • A big welcome…

There’s a welcome in store for those arriving at the weigh-in this afternoon in the form of a military vehicle complete with on-roof rifle.

A new one in the fight game that one.

  • Big men take a short walk

    Luke Reddy

    BBC Sport in Riyadh

The Al Faisaliah Hotel hosts today’s weigh-in and the fighters won’t have far to walk given they are both staying here.

Anthony Joshua is in one block, Andy Ruiz in the other.

Ruiz has a ring set up underneath the hotel and has trained there in recent weeks.

Hopefully neither man has hammered the hotel buffet before hitting the scales. No-one likes to look bloated after all!

  • Welcome to Riyadh

We stand in the shadows of a somewhat glitzy building in downtown Riyadh. This isn’t Las Vegas or Madison Square Garden.

It is however the wreckage left from our trip to the latter in June, when Andy Ruiz Jr did things to Anthony Joshua that we simply didn’t think he could do.

It’s time to weigh in. Time for one more face off and almost time to rumble.

Welcome to the weigh in folks!
